Happy Independence Day !!! A day when we should celebrate our independence - from England, from an old job, from an old boyfriend/girlfriend, or from something closer to your heart. What? I have no idea. I'm on too many painkillers to make much sense now.
Tonight, we're going back to the not-so-Upper West Side. Right near Lincoln Center, actually. For you dancers and/or NOLA fans, tonight outdoors at Lincoln Center (8:15 - 11:00) is the Tribute to New Orleans, with The Kermit Ruffins Show with Wanda Rouzan and the Dew Drop Inn. But, for most of the night, we'll be sitting outdoors or at the bar of O'Neals.
Years ago, a bar called O'Neals Balloon opened in the neighborhood. Legend has it that the name came from the fact that they couldn't have any 'Salloons' at the time. I haven't been able to document this, though. At the same time, a restaurant called the Ginger Man was serving up drinks and food around the corner. So, in the past few years, O'Neals Balloon closed, and the Salloon opened, then Iridium opened where O'Neals Balloon was (that's the Fred Flintstone-esque place), then Iridium moved downstairs and Merlot opened (same furniture), then Ginger Man closed and O'Neals opened where the Ginger Man was.
Got it? See you tonight at 7:40pm. If we get there before 8, we can take all the tables of people going to the theater.
See you tonight,
- stuart
