Wednesday Pub Night #151 - 8:00 at Idlewild

Back to the Pub Night home page

Good afternoon,

Tonight we're heading to the East Village (it's been a long time since we've been in that neighborhood). At Kevin's suggestion, we'll be going to Idlewild, the airplane bar. The CitySearch description is below.

They do not serve food, so eat before you go. If Idlewild is very crowded (or closed), we'll be across the street at Mojos. And there's a pretty good chance we'll end up with a drink at d.b.a. or at least fries at Frites.

Before I forget, thanks to Kevin (which is how he got nominated for suggesting this week's location), we also have new pubnight pictures posted on the site. Check out:

and send me suggestions for captions.

See you tonight,

From CitySearch:

"Flying the theme-bar trend to new heights is Idlewild, the airplane bar. A narrow space outfitted like a top-of-the-line 747, circa 1967, it features shiny silver metal ceilings, blue flame-stitched upholstered walls, fake porthole windows, and a dozen sets of genuine airplane seats&emdash;don't worry, there's lots of leg room. The barbacks sport ground crew coveralls; the waitresses model pale-blue, neo-stewardess drag; and the bartenders are comfortingly attired as pilots. The witty Jim Chu is your captain for the evening, keeping things festive yet low-key, as always. No peanuts, but lots of "zany" cocktails and, if you hurry, you can still get a charter membership in the mile-high club. &emdash;Lissa Townsend Rodgers"
