Wednesday Pub Night #191 (3/29/00) - 7:00 pm at Swift's Hibernian Lounge

Greetings friends, friends-of-friends and strangers. It is time for the PubNight 4th Anniversary!!!

On March 27, 1996, Bob Dole claimed the GOP presidential nomination; Moody’s lowered Apple Computer’s debt rating to junk bond status; and, the European Commission banned exports of British beef due to Mad Cow Disease. More important, Stuart Piltch sent 27 friends an e-mail that began, “Reaching back to an ancient tradition of drinking on Wednesdays to celebrate half the week being over, we are starting a Wednesday Pub night tonight.” Since then: we have had 190 PubNights in New York; it has expanded to Portland, ME; and, has sparked the birth of PubNight St. Louis. Since the first PubNight, 386 different people have come to PubNight NYC and over 420 different people have attended at least one of the three PubNights.

We're not sure why it is still going strong after four years. Prevailing theories include: interesting conversations; ongoing debates of new technology; developing friendships; budding romances (though, not as many as we would like); lack of other Wednesday night plans; the beer; or, the fact that few, if any, PubNight attendees have been stiffed on a bill at the end of the night. Come and see for yourself.

In celebration of our 4th anniversary, we will return to the site of the first PubNight, the back room of Swift’s Hibernian Lounge, an Irish pub on 4th Street on Wed. March 29th from 7pm on. They have a fine selection of beers, as well as a small Irish pubfood menu, in case you haven't eaten by then (Shepherd's Pie, Baked Potato, etc.) Swift is located at 34 E 4th St, between Lafayette and Bowery (halfway between Tower Video and the Bowery Bar on the South side of the street. We'll be there from 7:00 pm on. Go past the bar to the back room.

Come raise a beer - or several - to pat ourselves on the back for four fine years of drinking together. May it continue for many more beers to come.

See you there,

.......Kris, Jay, and Petro
