Back to the Pub Night home page
Good Morning,
This week is Pub nighter Daniel K's birthday. It's a standing tradition that birthday pubnighters pick the bar the week of their birthday (for those of you who acknowledge their birthday, that is). Here's what Daniel wrote in for this week:
"You know I walked into a bar in Chicago on the 4th that made all our
dive bars look like transplants from another universe. The owner had a great
smile, but few teeth. The waitress had been fired from the local diner
for being too lewd and obnoxious to the customers, "damn tourists." And I
had chosen that bar as the last place to visit in Chicago that sultry
afternoon because it served Chicago style hot dogs with fresh tomatoes
and a pickle. They had other things on the menu, but the bartender informed me
and her 4 other patrons (one was employed, or maybe just looking for a
job), that while there were other things on the menu and they were quite
delicious, they just didn't serve them anymore.
Because I know of no dive to quite measure up to that, I'd like to
nominate 16 for the next pubnight. It is not as popular as it was last summer,
but it is still the antithesis of a dive bar. It has fancy decorations, a
D.J. every night, and is patronized by 25 y.o. eye candy of great variety.
They don't have a great deal on tap, but they do have Guinness and they make
great mudslides. I confirmed this all last night as well as the splendor
of the beer selection of d.b.a. just across the street which could serve as
a nice backup.
Oh, it's my B-Day next week so any pubnight slackers who love me, like
me or loathe me should show up. "
So, where are we going? (didn't you just read it above???)
Also, XVI opens for business at 8pm, so if you were planning on showing
for drinks earlier, enjoy DBA's garden down the street until 8.
See you there!
