Wednesday Pub Night #218 (10/04/00) - 7:30 pm at Bowlmor
Back to the Pub Night home page
Friends,
PubNight this week is at a landmark institution in the Village. But I'll get to
that later.
It was a busy September as the end of the fiscal year rolled through while my
schedule was torn asunder by moving to a new apartment, volunteer commitments,
and ever-shifting priorities at work. I missed PubNight 216 to spend a week
touring the lovely
nuclear power plants of Central New York and had to leave
PubNight 217 early, after arriving late, due to other work-related commitments.
In the words of "a great man", the same one recently quoted by Stuart, "It's a
dog eat dog world, and I'm wearing Milk Bone underwear." Or, as he once said,
life is treating me" like a baby treats a diaper."
I need a drink. And I would like some company.
"Bowlmor Lanes was built in 1938, and is Manhattan's only surviving bowling
alley from the 'Golden Age of Bowling'. Bowlmor was also the site of the first
televised bowling shows in the 1950's. Since then, Bowlmor has appeared in the
movie "5 Corners," with Jodie Foster, several short films and music videos, the
Guess Jeans print ad series, Cosmopolitan magazine, the J. Crew Fall 1997
catalog, and two VH-1 specials." It is also rumored that the Sex Pistols and
other punk bands played some of their first shows at Bowlmor. So , there it is.
It may be a league night, but you can probably get in a few games while we are
there if you are willing to wait until the league crowd die down. Or, they may
make you wait a while for a lane, which just adds to the drinkin' and chattin'
time. Bowling is not intended as a central part of the night; it's optional.
Happy Birthday to Ken Perlin (Oct. 4) and Leslie Schwartz (Oct. 5)!!! We won't
discuss ages, but they are both somewhere in the age range between Sting and
Tiffany (see below).
