PubNighters one and all,The holidays continue. With Christmas done, Hannukah underway, and New Years peaking up over the horizon, we must not forget the birthday of relatively new PubNighter Rebecca M. who had to forego her choice in her proper birthday week due to Holiday PubNight.
Rebecca's birthday is/was December 20th, a birthday shared with Peter Criss of Kiss (1947); trickster Uri Geller, West Wing/L.A.Law actor John Spencer, and singer Patti Smith (all 1946); and, physicist Robert Van de Graaff (1901). December 20th (1938) was also the patent date for the kinescope, a cathode-ray receiving tube, and the iconoscope, a cathode-ray transmitter, both of which were integral components of televisions and television cameras for the next 50 years. December 20th was also big in automobile tire history, with the patent issued for the first inflatable automobile tire in 1892 and the end of tire ratioining in 1945. Also of note, the Lousiana Purchase took effect on December 20, 1803. It was an important day in history, from the early 19th century through the early 1970s, and one worth celebrating.
Rebecca, being new to New York, didn't have a specific bar choice. However, she specified a desire to go someplace "glamourously decadent" (or decadently glamourous, but I think it was the former.) Thus we are going to Naked Lunch (that's the bar, not a suggestion), a Soho hot spot. On weekends, velvet ropes and doormen protect the establishment from people like us. But during the week, there's usually plenty of room and less attitude.
See you at Naked Lunch. Happy Holidays to all and belated Happy Birthday
from PubNight to Rebecca.
Thanks to the History Channel for the fun historical facts."
