Greetings,

birthday - history - Mr. Hand - sound clips - the perfect PubNight location. All found verbosely below.

Another PubNight Birthday has arrived, and will be celebrated with PubNight at Fiddlesticks (54 Greenwich Ave at Perry) at 7:00 pm Wed. 1/10/01. On Friday I will enter my mid-30s. Also born January 12th are Rush Limbaugh (1951), Howard Stern (1954), Sporty Spice aka Mel C (1974), and HAL the computer (1997) ["I am a HAL Nine Thousand computer, Production Number 3. I became operational at the HAL plant in Urbana, Illinois on January 12, 1997." (1992 in the movie)-- spoken by HAL in the novel "2001: A Space Odyssey"]

On January 12, 1967 (my birthday), the Monkees' "I'm a Believer" was #1 on the charts, having replaced The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations". Also on the charts were Frank Sinatra's "That's Life" and "Snoopy vs. The Red Baron" by The Royal Guardsmen. Speaking of Guardsman, on my day of birth the Louisville Draft Board rejected Cassius Clay's request for exemption from military service, with the future Muhammed Ali having claimed he was a Black Muslim Minister who "ain't got no quarrel with them Viet Congs." January 12th is National Marzipan Day.

In sad news, Mr. Hand from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (1982) (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Walston,+Ray) died on 01/01/01. According to IMDB.com, "Born in New Orleans, Ray Walston started his acting career as a spear carrier with a local stock company." For the geeks out there, in addition to numerous other film, stage, and television credits, he was "Boothby" from "Star Trek: Next Generation"(1987) and "Star Trek: Voyager" (1995).

This week we head to my choice, Fiddlesticks Pub and Grill. From the decor to the menu to the waitstaff...it's Irish. We'll try to sit near the front, but if you don't see us right away, check the various nooks and crannies. Whether this will be your first PubNight or your 50th, you'll understand why it is arguably the perfect PubNight space, a big, friendly place with hearty food and great beer.

The PubNight Statistics page (http://www.pubnight.com/nyc/stats.html) has been updated, finally. Sorry for the delay.

See you at Fiddlesticks.
