Wednesday Pub Night #235 (02/07/01) - 7:00 pm at Molly's Pub & Restaurant, Shebeen

Back to the Pub Night home page

In accordance with the most recent PubNight Charter revision -- the "Get a Life Amendment" -- I get to pick this week since it is my 200th PubNight NYC. According to the rule, it must be a bar that I first stepped inside of for a PubNight (not necessarily my first PubNight, but a place I had never been before PubNight was held there.) Kris gets to pick in 35 weeks, Jay in 66, Vineel in 104, and TK and Greg in 114.

Of the approximately 160 different bars I have been to over the past 5 years of Wednesdays, about a dozen easily made the first cut. However, the final choice was easy.

NYCBeer.org calls it "a wonderful, cozy, dark Irish pub with sawdust on the floor, excellent Guinness on tap and fantastic hamburgers."

CitySearch says, the "warm interior, pleasing old-school jukebox, and regular-joe crowd makes every visit here seem almost like a privilege."

Where are we going?

PubNight #41 at Molly's, on February 5, 1997, included current regulars TK, Kris, and me, and occasional attendee Devon. While we sat at Molly's, a guy I knew from high school recognized me - he was the guy who dated my senior year girlfriend after we broke up - and said he was marrying the sister of another friend of mine from high school (who I ran into at PubNight 61 for the first time since my graduation in 1985).

From the newspapers on the day of our last trip to Molly's:
- Civil Jury Finds Simpson Liable in Pair of Killings"
- Promoters of the controversial sport of ultimate fighting have sued the New York State Athletic Commission, charging that new rules passed by the panel last week violate state and Federal law.
...and most important...
- Venture Capital Discovers New York's New Technology: "Long accustomed to being overlooked in the high technology field, New York City is fast becoming a magnet for venture capital investments in start-up companies offering new-media and Internet-related services, a new national survey says."

See you at Molly's!
