Wednesday Pub Night #237 (02/21/01) - 8:00 pm at Motor City
Back to the Pub Night home page
Good Afternoon,
This week there are no admitted birthdays this week, no Hallmark
reasons to be cantankerous about love, and no piano bars to visit. So
where does that leave us? PNNY is venturing to a bar we have yet to
visit, in an area we haven't been to in about a year.
Since this is a rock and roll bar (and yes, there may be some rock and
roll outlaws in attendance), it only seems fitting to note some points
in rock and roll history this week:
- 1948 - Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) was born.
- 1950 - Francis Buchholz (Scorpions) was born.
- 1952 - Jean-Jacques Burnel (The Stranglers) and Brad Whitford
(Aerosmith) were born.
- 1976 - KISS placed their footprints on the sidewalk outside the Grauman
Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
- 1978 - Sid Vicious (Sex Pistols) and Nancy Spungen were arrested in New
York and charged with drug possession.
- 1980 - Bon Scott (AC/DC) fell unconscious and died in a friend's car
after a drinking bout that lasted all night.
Citysearch notes this bar as: "Step through the door and past the big,
'50s luncheonette-style windows
of this furthest outpost of the Ludlow Street bar scene so far, and
flash back to another time. The big, L-shaped bar and couches, little
booths dotted around the room, and giant tire with the red wing of
Mercury across it scream "Rebel Without a Cause".
Where are we going this week? It's time to revisit the lower east side -
break out your dog collars, motorcycle jackets and tattoos (for those
you who don't already). There's no food at this venue, so eat dinner
first.
When you see Jay this week, ask him about his goatee.
See you there!
