PubNight #249 (05/16/01) - 7:30 pm at Xth Avenue Lounge

PubNight #250 has arrived! When we started back in March 1996, we didn't know if this PubNight idea would last more than a few weeks. Now that we've passed five years and have reached our 250th PubNight (and multiple cities), I guess we can call it a success.

This week's location was sort of selected by a vote of the top 10 Pubnight (Phase 2) attendees. We say "sort of" because the votes were scattered, including Brew's (PubNight#8), Firehouse (PN#82), Barmacy (PN#70,195,213), Ozone (PN#233), and Bahi (PN#239). This week's destination, Chumleys, received first place votes by both TK and Jay, as well as several honorable mentions, with TK adding that "it definitely qualifies as a pub. And there's always the story of how my grandparents used to go there. And, of course, there's the legendary 86 story...." It's a hidden-away old speakeasy, so write down the address if you haven't been there!!!

For our first time to Chumleys (PN#2- April 96), it was Passover so we were celebrating "that we do not have to be slaves, nor do we have to wander through the desert for 40 years (or for the non-Jews in the audience -- we don't have to be betrayed during a nice dinner and carry our own cross to our crucifixion)." Our second trip to Chumleys (PN#164-Sept. 99) was to celebrate the return of an old friend to NYC and freedom, as well as "the impending 'sample date' computer bug of 9/9/99." This time, we're just celebrating that we still get together on Wednesdays, we've found/fostered a group of people who like each other and, as always, we're celebrating beer.
