Good Afternoon,This week PNNY is heading down to a neighborhood we haven't been to in a while to check out a new venue that's been on our list to visit. CitySearch describes this place as: " wide open strolling room, 12-foot-high tin ceilings, exposed brick walls and handmade furnishings, it's hard to believe this place used to be a hardware store." (Looks like they also have a pool table from the picture of the place).
Some interesting historical facts to mull this week while drinking in
a historical venue:
- Aug 1, 1910 Licensing New York - The state of New York issued its first
license plates on this day in 1910. Massachusetts, the first state in the
nation to issue plates, had been doing so since 1893, when it introduced
iron plates with the registration number etched on top.
- Aug. 1, 1942 - Jerry Garcia born (guitarist, banjo, lyricist: group: The
Grateful Dead)
- Aug 1, 1960 - Joe Elliot born (singer: group: Def Leppard)
- Aug. 1, 1963 - Coolio born
- Aug. 1, 1973 - Tempestt Bledsoe (actress: The Cosby Show)
So where are we going this week? This venue is conveniently near the F and JMZ trains (for those of you displaced by the D/Q construction) on the lower east side.
