Good Afternoon,This week PNNY is going back to a bar in the NYU area which we haven't been to in while. In fact, last time we were at this venue it was for Petro's birthday and Krispy Creme was still open on 8th St. Ever had a plain Krispy Creme and a Guinness? Interesting combination and topic of debate. (Don't make that face unless you've tried it...)
50 years ago this venue was described as having "cheap food, long term credit, and a total lack of "artistic" decor" [which] made it a popular haunt of de Kooning, Reinhardt, and Rothko, among others." I think the days of long term credit have gone, but the rest of description still holds true.
Some interesting points of history for the week:
Aug. 15, 1914 - The Panama Canal opened to traffic.
Aug. 15, 1969 - The Woodstock Music and Art Fair opened on Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel (not Woodstock), New York.
Aug 12, 1981 (20 yrs ago) - IBM introduces first "Personal Computer" (IBM 5150), the first 16-bit personal computer.
Aug. 15, 1998 (3 yrs ago) - Apple Computer shipped its new personal computer, the iMac.
So where are we going this week? Back to the central village area before NYU comes back for the fall semester. Look for us upstairs.
