Back to the Pub Night home page
Friends,To continue the tradition of checking out new bars and different neighborhoods, we're heading uptown a bit this week. The reason for the selection of the Upper West Side, pathetically geeky though it may be, is explained below. The key thing is that we are heading to an old favorite known for excellent chicken wings (Atomic wings), although none of us have yet been to the new location.
Rhoda lived there? So? My friend Joan alerted me that Lorenzo Music, the voice of Rhoda's "Carlton, your doorman" (my favorite unseen TV character) and Garfield the Cat, recently died. He also produced "Rhoda" and composed the theme song to "The Bob Newhart Show" ("Home to Emily".) Rhoda lived at the non-existent address 332 West 64th St on the show (thanks to Sheri on the "Mary & Rhoda List" for the address) so I thought we'd head to the Upper West Side for a change. The only PubNight-appropriate bar in the west 60s closed recently, so West 79th will have to do.
See you at Blondie's. (hmmm, that sounds like a euphemism.)
PS - After sending the email, I discovered that this Wednesday, August 22 is Valerie "Rhoda" Harper's 61st Birthday.
