(shhhh... this week's pubnight is brought to you by Jen Na - read below)this year, i've decided to go back to my roots, so to speak, or at least observe traditions and well, observances, more so than i ever have before. hence, famous people who share my birthday:
i did at one time played around, very coyly, with entering the exciting and dynamically charging world of basketball. but by the time i went to tryouts the following season in the 6th grade, i realized that during the summer, people grew at anatomically faster rates than i had, and that this seemed to be the trend for at least the next 7 years. it was a real bummer...
when it seems the world is beating you down and you feel like you have nowhere to run, i like to run to madison avenue or soho and grab me a new kate spade or a new pair of sexy boots that i will never wear because it resembles chinese footbinding sensations too much or, when i'm feeling really desperate, a dior keychain. there's nothing quite as therapeutic as listening to the sound of the plastic running through that machine. and then the following month, i open my mail and feel like the world is beating me down again, but ahh well, such is the vicious cycle of life...
german psychologist who was a crucial figure in the development of gestalt psychology. the thing that i found interesting about him was that he tried to understand mental activities and functions, i.e. learning, perceptions, associations as structured wholes. having just studied hegel's concept of life as an 'organic unity', i found the relationships in their thoughts really cool at the time. ok, another beer please...
