Good evening, beerketeers:
Having Escaped from LA where I was trapped last week (soon to be a major motion picture starring Kurt Russell as Greg), this week I'm claiming Wednesday as a slightly late celebration of my birthday.
Since many of you will have gone away for the holidays by then, and I never cared much for popular opinion anyway, I've picked a rather unorthodox venue. Broadway City is an enormous arcade located in the middle of Times Square. But like all good arcades nowadays, they have a bar you can booze up at between games. I personally find the mix of games here to be better than the setup at Bar Code, the other popular destination for this sort of thing in the area. Both pale in comparison with that Mecca of arcades, Dave & Busters, where they actually have waitress service with a paging system when you're really wrapped up in a game (not the mention a full food menu), but this is as good as you're going to get without a trip to Rockland or Islandia.
Note that there may be a minimum admission charge at the door of $5, which gets put onto a game card for you to play with. On the topic of a trip to Broadway City for Pub Night, Kris suggests "I think this PN will look like something out of the kitsch movie 'Hackers' - guess who gets to be Angelina Jolie?".
As for me, I'll be on the ground floor doing my best Rocky impression by beating up on Mocap Boxing, the only video game that includes a calorie counter for when you play. With a pair of relatively heavy boxing gloves for your hands and sensors that track how you bob and weave, a game of Mocap works up a serious sweat. I've been training to improve my endurance for the game (I'm not making this up), and this week I'm hoping to finally beat the world champion. I coulda had class, I coulda been a contendah.
P U B...see you real soon!
