PubNight #329 (12/11/02) - 7:30pm at Totem

Back to the Pub Night home page

This week, Jen Na and Daniel picked the location of Pubnight together. You will see why below.

From Jen:
Daniel and I are picking the pub night location this week because he's a rock star, and I'm leaving the city this Sunday for the next few months. It's actually fitting given that he's the one that brought me to my first PN a little over 2 years ago. So any complaints can be directed to him. :)I'm going to miss congregating with you on Wednesday nights over drinks. It's been wonderful getting to know those of you with whom I've developed great friendships, and I regret not having had the chance to get to know the rest of you better. It'll be a must-do for when I return, hopefully in a few months. As a final thank you, I'm not going to drag you down to Tribeca but instead ask you to join me in the East Village for drinks at Totem. Daniel recommends it, and if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me. Cheers! Jen

From Daniel:
Ok, I've given this way too much thought so I'm sending you this now so I can concentrate on dynamic stack pointer adjustments for cache line coherency. My first instinct last week was to nominate Musical Box, by far my favorite bar within 30ft of my apartment. But apparently pubnight has been there twice in the last six months, one of them just two weeks ago. So then I thought of Fish Bar, it's cozy and the bartender is usually friendly. And the name has "fish" in it, I like bars with fish in their name. Unfortunately, you are pretty much limited to beer there. I've only been drinking beer and Pisco sours for a month, so...

Totem! It's within 200 ft of my apartment, first requirement met. They can make mixed drinks, even if they shamelessly consult their manual on occasion. The beers on tap are never stale. The bartenders are friendly, and the yuppies are scarce on Wednesdays. Well, almost no one but locals finds this place on most days. Shhh. And best of all, their lounge area is easy on the eyes and super comfy.

See you there!
