You read that subject line correctly. We are heading across the East River to Astoria, birthplace of entertainers Jimmy Durante and Ethel Merman, Buffalo Philharmonic conductor Jo Ann Faletta, NY Yankee Hall of Famer Whitey Ford, and the Steinway piano. We are hitting the fourth of five boroughs of NYC this week partly to enjoy the city's last remaining beer hall and partly to honor birthday gal Jaye.

Jaye's commentary on this, her Birthday PubNight, was "I don't know the Beer Garden that well. I've actually never been there. The fates keep conspiring against me. Doh! I've been told that the one bar in Astoria worth going to is the Beer Garden. I managed to live in Astoria for 2 years and never get to it. So this week, Pub Night is going to fix this grievous error, in honor of my birthday. Everyone drag yourselves out of Manhattan for once, enjoy some good brews, and pat me on the head in birthday greetings. And remember, beer is your friend."

It should be a cool, clear night of outdoor drinking of fine pilsners and ales. Nostrovia!

Your friends,
Jocelyn, Kris, Jay, Petro, TK, and beer
