PubNight #397 (4/28/04) - 7:30pm at Good World

To Previous Pubnights

This is the first time I've written a Pub Night e-mail for a bar I didn't choose myself, and also for a bar I haven't actually been to. In fact, *none* of us have been here. Goodness, how exciting! Yesterday I found myself poring over CitySearch and Shecky's in an effort to confirm that this place was suitable, and then trying to find the perfect backup. Then the rest of the triumvirate gently told me that the backup is really just whatever old favorite happens to be closest, and that choosing the bar is more about intuition than perspiration.

And that makes me feel really good, because I've spent so much of my life looking for a position of authority where my slacker tendencies are allowed to thrive. I'm home.

(Yeah, I know, shut up, Mike.)

This week we're going to Chinatown with TK's idea of Good World, which appears to be one of those Sino-Scandanavian fusion places that are all the rage right now. CitySearch calls it "one of the standout entries in the hip Chinatown bar game." Intriguing. There are apparently also Swedish snacks and Belgian beers. I'm sold.

As for the backup, I had been thinking of Motor City, but was pleasantly reminded of Welcome to the Johnsons when I stumbled on this photo: http://www.meccapixel.com/archives/000069.php?num=1 (I figure this is about as far from Sweden or China as we can get in five blocks.)

See you there!
