PubNight #400 (5/19/04) - 8pm at Hell

To Previous Pubnights

Fun facts about PubNight and Hell:

•Hell is, at least technically, a gay bar. Some of the new PubNighters among us may not be familiar with the aesthetics of gay bars other than the one in "Police Academy," in which case they are probably looking for reassurance that they will not be immediately swept into a romantic tango with a large biker. And I would reassure them, but I have it on good authority that Barry Drabin-Gray will indeed be in attendance.

•Hell has the distinction of being the only bar I have ever been bounced out of, on the tenuous grounds that I was barely sober enough to stand and that my date had his hand inappropriately far down my pants. How great is Hell? My date thereupon apologized, left me blind drunk on the street and went back inside. (I bounced *him* several days later.)

•Hell is, according to an unnamed undergraduate in physics, exothermic. His proof relied crucially on the fact that a young woman once told him that it would be "a cold day in Hell" before he would have sexual relations with her, demonstrating that the temperature and pressure in Hell must be increasing until all Hell does, in fact, break loose.

•Pat Benatar once opined that Hell is for children. We have happily proven her oh-so-wrong on numerous occasions.

•PubNight has previously visited Hell for PN #350, PN #300, PN #200 and PN #117. Fleet Week in most cases. Hell-o, sailor, indeed.

•As of the end of March, we had been to 260 different bars in four out of five boroughs (damn Bronx) and enjoyed the company of 863 different people, 100 of whom had attended on 10 or more occasions. But you knew that, didn't you, because you were paying attention back then.

I'm tempted to follow this remarkably lengthy salute to Hell by telling you that PubNight will be at Chumley's this week. I'm just a little bit evil that way. No, no. Hell is where we are bound, and Hell is where we shall go.

See you in Hell. And drag your friends down with you!
