PubNight #419 (9/29/04) - 7:30pm at Fat Black Pussycat

Previous PubNights PubNight Home

Tomorrow will be a night for rejoicing and making merry, for after a twenty-month exile at the Daily News, Dan Boland is returning to PubNight on a regular basis. Yes, his encyclopedic cultural knowledge, impeccable gentility and champion-class tolerance will soon be at the disposal of PubNighters who have for so long been deprived. If we are very lucky, perhaps he will even re-enact excerpts from Kiki & Herb's farewell concert at Carnegie Hall for our entertainment. Show reverence if he does, for you are in the presence of one of the true greats.

We have further cause for celebration, as this week marks the thirty-third birthday of our own Vineel Shah. Triumvir Kris Pennella also turned thirty-three last week, making them both exactly as old as Jesus was when he died. But they have nothing to fear from Romans or Pharisees or Mel Gibson or whoever actually killed Jesus, oh, no. This is in part because we live in twenty-first century New York, but I think it also has something to do with the fact that they're both awesomely cool people, and a lot more fun to hang out with than Jesus. He was kinda preachy.

Vineel's call for tonight (as it was last year) is one of my favorites: Fat Black Pussycat. Gaze in awe at the gorgeously appointed lounge. Gasp in honor as we are invited to the private VIP room. Thrill -- briefly -- to the friggin' amazing martini specials in huge glasses, then realize you actually have to get up in the morning and switch to beer. Above all, enjoy one more September PubNight. From Dan's return to Vineel's deification to the heaving, supple bosoms of Joan Matelli, all is right with the world.

Forgive us, Father, for we know not what we do, or at the very least we like doing it too much to stop.

-Mike, the Triumvirate, Vineel and Dan
