Thanksgiving. A time of...giving thanks. (I know, it's a remarkable derivation -- I studied etymology in grad school.) A time of humility and reflection. A time when everydamnone is out of town, maybe at PubNight St. Lucia or going grudgingly home at the folks'. And so those few stragglers among us will be enjoying a much more quiet celebration of the week that was, at a place too small to patronize for a normal PN.
I personally will be giving thanks for the power of alcohol to soothe my pain over a catastrophic hard drive failure at a cost of hundreds of dollars, that comes right on the heels of my wisdom tooth extraction (surgical extractions aren't covered under the insurance I pay extra for), just a hair before Christmas, and as I'm already trying to figure out where the money for my Spring '05 move is going to come from.
Not up to my usual standard of humor? Sorry. Not feeling it so much.
Jen Na, however, has much to be thankful for -- she's saying goodbye to finance again! But, as befits the pain it has caused her, we will be having a most solemn celebration at the tiny little West Village wine bar Turks & Frogs, where hopefully we will have the energy and emotional wherewithal to lift glasses and toast better days ahead. I will personally benefit from having only to drag my sorry ass half a block home, but the rest of you will find much to enjoy in this low-key charmer.
PubNight: Because the universe is a miasma of pain and loneliness. See you there!
