PubNight #453 (5/25/05) - 7:30pm at Eight Mile Creek

Good Afternoon-

Spring has sprung. Birds are building nests and swooping at people's heads. This time of year, humans, according to a lot of Discovery-channel type shows, are copulating like rabbits. And flowers are-a-bloomin'. It's an all around good time.

Kangaroos are animals that are known to certainly have some spring in their step, however, this week, they just didn't have enough... since they are actually on the menu at this week's pubnight choice. Eight Mile Creek is an Aussie-inspired place. It features a higher-priced restaurant on the ground level, but the part we're interested in is the Creek-Down-Under (which has its own separate entrance). The bar menu has food choices (both carnivorous and veggie-friendly) priced all under $10.

PNNY has never been to this bar, but on a recent expedition to find new and different places for Pubnight to check out and one worthy of a "welcome back" toast to founders of PNWest, Kris P & Chris S, check out what New York magazine has to say about the place:

"Down under the restaurant, this two-room boite is exactly what NoLIta has long needed: a subdued, stylishly appointed sanctuary for grown-ups who don't need to be among a crowd of identically dressed trendies to feel validated. Outside, a chalkboard sign advertising $4 sangria beckons you inside; while this concoction is, indeed, one of the tangiest, juiciest versions around (and certainly offers the most bang for your buck), don't leave without splurging on one of the even more luscious house cocktails, like the Passion Rita (a margarita made with passionfruit juice). Or sample New Zealand and Australian wines, also featured in the upstairs dining room."

So, strap on your pogo boots, make like a roo and fill your pouch with something you'll regret with your morning hangover. Don't like kangas? Fine, then hop to it like a bunny. And if you wake up in the morning with more than a hangover and beer goggles hanging from your lamp, you can always blame the fact that spring is in the air.

Hoo-Roo!
