Hiya Pubnighters!
What to celebrate this Wednesday? Besides my usual spiffy spiel, where I so soundly say we supplicate the day of spirits sucking (and sipping for those who've graduated from bottles)... Let's look to history and ponder the finer reasons why we should clink a glass. You trivia hags will thank me when you win a tournament or something with my help because of this email.
So, Washington was born on Feb 22. Some say he's the best president ever. Others disagree strongly. Over a $4 pint of Guinness (well-poured, so I hear) at Woody McHale's in the West Village, we can debate the merits of good ole wooden-toothed Georgie boy.
Oh, this is my favorite... Pharoah Ramesses II was crowned on Feb 22nd. Of course, this goes back 3,296 years ago. What's really kinda cool, the sun's rays hit Ramesses' face at the Egyptian temple Abu Simbel (only on 2/22). They were so smart! Well, maybe Vineel should ask Sharon to check it out and let us know if that's eally true. In honor of RII's special day, let's all go out and buy a condom!
Hello Dolly! No, the musical didn't come out on the 22nd, but the scientific community did! Nine years ago they cloned the so-named sheep-- much to the horror of the conservative, fundamentalist segment of the population. Definitely no hurrah for science and mankind-marveling from those folks. Hell, they're just jealous. At least RC crowd is-- their nifty invention of "indulgences" didn't really pan out. Oh, but they got their flock doing the tithing thing. Still, score one for the holy guys.
Oh, and an even more marvelous reason to drink... we must celebrate with triyummy Mike! He's landed a job that seems ideal! He won't need a hiatus from Pubnight after all. So, let's drink to happiness for Mike and, of course, for everyone! That's really what Wednesdays are for!
