PubNight #500 (4/19/06) - 7:30pm at Valhalla
Five Hundred Little PubNights And How They Grew:
- 889 people have been to at least one PN. 113 have been to 10 or more, 72 have been to 20 or more, 38 have been to 50 or more, 22 have been to 100 or more, 7 have been to 200 or more, 4 have been to over 300, and the very top spot goes to expat Kris Pennella with 370 nights of debauchery.Ê (Thank the Goddess no one new has come since Anniversary.)
- PubNight has been to approximately six hundred million bars. (There is a high standard deviation here because no one has counted in a while. The real number is somewhat closer to 294.) We have been to four boroughs (we'll get to you, Bronx!) and Jersey City.
- We've had four spinoffs: three successful (PN West, PN Portland, and PN Baltimore--they can fight it out as to which one is "Maude," which is "The Jeffersons," and which is "Archie Bunker's Place") and one abortive (PN St. Louis; it can be "Gloria"). And do I sense "Good Times" in the offing?
- People have gotten a lot better at parking in safe spots over ten years. Bonobos are not our friends. And Marlo Thomas will never come if we keep waiting for her with such anticipation; she's like the Great Pumpkin that way.
With Hell a distant, fond memory (at least, until we get to the real one), and Chumley's...well, both excessively hellish and insufficiently Hell-ish, we're setting our sights higher with Valhalla, described by CitySearch as "a beer drinker's paradise."Ê No pictures of celebrities writhing in mortal agony, but I think we'll do just fine anyway. (Bonus: our backup is Perdition, because I'm just that f*cking clever.)
PubNight: it's all in the family.
