PubNight #532 (11/29/06) - 7:30pm at The Molly Wee

When you miss PubNight, not only do we miss you, but you end up missing sometimes weird, interesting or funny things. Here's more of a silly highlight from last week:

A tipsy Ricky turned to be the voice of reason for some anonymous guy who's Miller High Life became a low point after he was bounced from the bar, physically kicking and screaming. Fast forward a few minutes to Ricky on the sidewalk with an arm around the guy talking him out of a teary and bleary-eyed breakdown. Somehow the drunk guy figured yelling, "Oh yah, well I'm from California!" at the bouncer would make some sort of magical difference. Yah, we don't know who he was. Some folks, weirdly, like Ricky, turn out to have a knack for talking a guy down off a ledge. Talk about entertainment.

My point is that PubNight is not only for folks to get soused or to catch up on weeks missed or to bitch about their job. It's also about being in the city, experiencing this place where tourists, newer NY transplants and native, hardened NYers who sometimes hate to co-exist with others—all have to intermix and make the best of it. You want to talk about free entertainment. That's part of the beauty of living in the NYC (or in my case, the NY metro area). It's the grand theater, the big stage. And we are not just merely players, we're also the audience.

So, we're heading to a different part of town. I figured it would be a good time for a change- and it's centrally located. We're going to one of my old favorites from the early 90s, the Molly Wee, a couple blocks south of MSG. It was a dive back in the day, but I hear it's been spruced up a little bit. The good news- no Rangers or Knicks playing at the Garden (yay, no dejected or exuberant drunken assholes at 10 pm). More good news, if you wanna check out the Macys windows, it's nearby. And even more good news, there are a crapload of subways within blocks from the bar.

Don't miss out. Think of it like a free ticket to the theater.
