I've realized that I must have been heavily influenced by 60 minutes as a child... These emails often seem as though they are narrated by Andy Rooney - if you've seen his talking skull-like countenance these days, it's quite upsetting and frightens me more than, say, the "Snuggle Bear" from those dryer sheet ads (perhaps it would be better if Skeletor from He-Man did the narration... heh... yeah, I like that)
Regardless, I received an email from Anna Stankowska yesterday... you probably don't know her - I know I don't know her - but she emails me often.
Yesterday she sent me more edits of her PhD thesis. At least, I think it's her PhD thesis. It seems we have some kind of mentor/ student relationship where I am the mentor... I take my responsibility as mentor quite seriously by carefully reading and making notes on her thesis, changing the wording of a given phrase to improve impact and such. and sometimes I send scathing corrections back. From what I've been able to grasp, her thesis is probably something about business, farming, or biology - I'm not really sure because it is written in polish and I have yet to learn the language (and it seems Anna's grasp of english is equal to mine in polish) - but I can't let that get in the way of my responsibility as a mentor.
This is the 7th Holiday PubNight to be hosted in our home, and you know what that means... its all about beer - and about you - and about how beer is your mentor or maybe the other way around... Yes, just like Big Brothers and Sisters of America, you are part of Beer Brothers and Sisters of... er... uh... PubNight - and you have a responsibility just like I do with Anna.

you know, for years I've been sprinkling references to "The Prisoner" throughout these emails and, like, no one cares... what makes it worse is that last year was my 6th holiday PN email - I totally missed a great opportunity there... it's as bad as the time I missed an obvious reference in PN#420 - oh, I live in eternal self-imposed shame... I think I'll work "Ladyhawk" into my next pn email...
