PubNight #563 (7/4/07) - Nita Nita

Previous PubNights PubNight Home

Happy Independence Day!!! For the first time ever, Pubnight will be held on the July 4th! Last time the holiday fell on a Wednesday back in 2001, we skipped that week. My usual July 4 habit is to watch the fireworks from the Williamsburg waterfront, so I figured why not invite the Pubnight crew to come along for the fun?

Our pre-fireworks rendevous point will be Nita Nita, a laidback bar/lounge one block from the waterfront and three blocks from the Bedford L train stop.

Nita Nita has a great back garden and --either because it's off the main strip or because it hasn't been deemed as a hipster hot-spot-- it's generally uncrowded. It's so under the radar I couldn't find a review on any of the major New York nightlife guide sites, so I've linked to L Magazine review below.

There's an excellent selection of brews on tap, a collection of mostly Spanish wines to go with their tapas-oriented menu, and an intriguing speciality cocktail list. For the extended 4-7 happy hour, drinks are two-for-one. Also, especially for July 4 they will be doing BBQ in the back garden.

We'll start Pubnight a little earlier than usual, around 5:30 pm, since it's a holiday and the fireworks are during prime PN time. We'll saunter down to the waterfront about 20 minutes before the show starts (at 9 or 9:20? I'm looking for an authoritative answer on this) to claim a decent spot along Kent Avenue for fireworks watching.

Cheers,
Rebecca, Cindy, and Mike
