It's the first week of December and there's no escaping the fact that the holiday season (and winter!) is upon us with a vengeance.
This week we celebrate a Pubnight-appropriate holiday if there ever was one. Wednesday is Repeal Day, the anniversary of the repeal of 18th Amendment on Dec 5, 1933, which ended 13 years of Prohibition. Toast to your constitutionally-protected freedom to drink! See http://www.repealday.org/ for more info.
Also, this year's very early Hanukkah starts tonight. So Wednesday, after lighting your menorah, come out, raise a glass, and celebrate the second night of the holiday by getting lit yourself.
The locale for our holiday reveries will be Sixth Ward, a fairly new bar on the LES with a definite Gaelic bent. The pub menu leans towards Irish favorites such as shepard's pie and fish 'n' chips. Guinness fans should be happy--according to Time Out,'Co-owner Ray Burns flew in a beer specialist from the Emerald Isle to ensure that the nitrogen and CO2 levels in each pint of Guinness are identical to those found in the typical pub in Ireland.'
The bar also sports a pool table and pinball machines. Allegedly the back garden is all-season, but we'll see how well that works out given that snow is forecast for Wednesday.
Cheers,
Rebecca and the triummies
PS: Mark your calendars-- it's two weeks 'til Holiday Pubnight, Wed Dec 19, to be hosted as usual at Chez Konomore (aka TK & Jay's place)
