PubNight #598 (3/5/08) - Shoolbred's

Previous PubNights PubNight Home

Hi Folks!
I've been stuck under a boulder, a pet rock I've named "Worky." I've escaped the rock garden and I'm ready to roll to the bar where my friends plan to congregate. Wednesday couldn't have come soon enough.

Shoolbred's in the East Village is a new spot we'd like to check out. Ideally, we want to hit it up before the hipsters claim it. Later this month Zagats plans to host a "Scotch School" event there.

Apparently the pub is Scottish-themed, named for a department store in Scotland and brags 36 whiskeys from Ireland, Scotland & Canada. Oh yeah, don't be surprised if our bartender is wearing a kilt. It seems they have a tendency to do that.

Shoolbred's is located at what once was a Chinese restaurant called Jade Mountain (the old neon Chow Mein sign remains high above the wooden and stained glass exterior). The decor is reminiscent of a library complete with a fireplace and comfy leather reading chairs. There are 10 beer taps featuring Brooklyn lager, Wild Goose IPA, Guinness and Irish amber ale Smithwicks.

So, grab your favorite kilt, a surly bagpiper or your crappiest impersonation of a Scotts brogue and let's make ourselves comfortable at Shoolbred's. Don't be a lollygagger. We're all about the jollymaking!

See ya there!
