PubNight #634 (11/12/08) - American Trash

Previous PubNights PubNight Home

Hi folks,

This week we head uptown but downscale -- all the way to the Upper East Side to the redneck theme bar American Trash.

'Cause if there's one thing this year's election showed, it's that the division of the country into 'red states/blue states' doesn't fully capture the complexity of the social landscape. It's the contradictions, and the surprising shifts, of American demographics and cultural identities that makes public discourse in this country often frustrating, sometimes inspiring, but always fascinating.

So that's my rationalization of our bar choice based on current events. But you know it's really about the drinkin'. Last time we hit American Trash was six years ago for George and Kim's Hand Fasting (pagan betrothal ceremony) in October 2002. We have been lured back by the promise of cheap drinks, a good beer selection, and a foosball table.

Also, it's a dog friendly bar, so you are welcome to bring your pooch.

Cheers,
Rebecca & Cindy & Jocelyn
