PubNight #635 (11/19/08) - Landmark Tavern

Good morning, Pub Night!

As probably none of you know, the month of November is reserved for crazy folks around the world to try to write the next Great Antarean Novel. (Trust me, they won't sell in the US.) This means that I am absolutely sick of writing this month. In lieu of wit this week, you get a chunk of my story. And I'm hoping you don't notice.

Ahem!

Vampires had no desire to enslave humanity. Directly, anyway. A reign of terror was much simpler to administrate, but the drawbacks far outweighed the advantages. Desperate people were pressured into doing desperate things, with often messy consequences. Panicked humans were not as tasty, anyway; adrenaline gave blood a rather bitter aftertaste. Happy humans were tasty humans. Sure, back in the old days the vampires may have tormented the local population, but they didn't know better. These days, there were more humane ways to raise food. In short, terrorizing the locals was tacky. And indiscreet.

For the record, I have absolutely NO idea what's supposed to happen. Therefore, you are all required to come to Pub Night this Wednesday and develop a plot. Otherwise I'll be in the corner weeping about how I'll never be able to quit my day job.

Pub Night this week is at Landmark Tavern in Hell's Kitchen. One of the oldest continually operating establishments in NYC today (minus thirty minutes during Prohibition), it still has swinging saloon doors the original bar carved from a single tree. Beers will run you a touch more than the five cents they were back when it opened, but it should still be a good time. Plus, good burgers!
