PubNight friends,
The night before Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the busiest bar nights of the year. People head back to their hometowns, reunite with old buddies. Others are not going back to the ole homestead and are hanging out with their chosen family-- their friends.
This Thanksgiving eve we have decided to join up at St. Dymphna's on St. Marks in the East Village. The food is good, the nabe is cool (used to be much cooler), and the beer, well, it is always good.
I've told this story before, here goes again: One of the last times I was at St. Dymphna's, actress Alicia Silverstone, picked up my winter coat as it toppled the chair that it was sitting on. I was starstuck for a moment, because, as it turns out I had seen the godawful Batman & Robin movie about a week beforehand. As I turned around to thank the person who helped me out, I realized, wow, it's Bat Girl.
Well, this little memory has inspired me to look up what Ms. Silverstone of "Clueless" fame has been up to over the years since last we shared a moment in time. Since that trash heap of a Batman sequel in 1997 her acting career has evaporated. To her credit, she still looks great. Thanks to IMDB, we now know that her measurements are 33-24-34. She's a 32-year-old vegan, turned spokeswoman for PETA. She's only been a vegetarian for 10 years, so, I guess when we had our little encounter she was a meat eater and from what I could tell, she was a very friendly and courteous person (score one for meaties).
This lovely tangent told you nothing about the bar, but I vouch for it as a great place and so does Becki and Jaye. No worries, it's not a star hang out or anything like that. It's more a place where you can melt into the woodwork and just be a New Yorker enjoying a drink with friends.
See ya there,
Cyn (Becki & Jaye)
