PubNight #642 (1/14/09) - Fiddlesticks

Previous PubNights PubNight Home

As far as I can tell, my first birthday PubNight selection was in 2000 (PubNight #180 on 1/12/00), when I wrote the following: "After being the first NYC PubNight visitor at our northern siblings, PubNight Portland (ME), I am back and looking forward to PubNight reaching 4 years old (March), then reaching the 200 Wednesday mark (May.) This week's reason to celebrate is my 33rd birthday - or what I am viewing as the end of the first third of my life (I'm an optimist) - so I hope you can come celebrate with me. Sounds self-centered, doesn't it? If you don't want to celebrate my Birthday, you can instead pay homage to one of the famous people who share my birthday (old to young): Rush Limbaugh; Kirstie Alley; Howard Stern; and, Sporty Spice."

Nine (!!!) years later, I'm still enjoying the company of fellow PNers (""Of middle age the best that can be said is that a middle-aged person has likely learned how to have a little fun in spite of his troubles." - Donald R. Perry Marquis) at a notably older and greyer 42 years old ("Wisdom doesn't necessarily come with age. Sometimes age just shows up all by itself." - Tom Wilson) This time I am twice the legal drinking age and 2/3 of the way to half-price tickets at some movie theaters.

So come out to the place that anyone who knows me well had already safely assumed would be my PN birthday choice. ("I don't believe one grows older. I think that what happens early on in life is that at a certain age one stands still and stagnates." - T.S. Eliot) We'll be at that great Irish pub, Fiddlesticks, in the Village, where both the staff and the decor are straight off the boat.

Come have a few pints and help me reflect on the years passed. ("You know, by the time you reach my age, you've made plenty of mistakes if you've lived your life properly." - Ronald Reagan)

See you there, with my walker, bifocals and denture adhesive by my side.
