PubNight #651 (3/18/09) - Sixth Ward

Hi all,
Happy St. Patty's Day! In the spirit of the Irish, I'm partial to an Irish bar the day after. The Irish got the drinking thing right. We're going to Sixth Ward in the LES.

Here's all that I know about St. Patrick: He was a super short guy who had a pipe, he led children along a path in the woods by playing said pipe. On his travels, he had thing for stopping off at a publick house or two. Once there, he'd drop off the kids with a slave trader or Catholic priest who happened to be sitting on the stoop. From there he'd get some drinking money. Yay!

As it turns out, some guys at the pub used to call him "Leper Con." He apparently had a major thing against folks who couldn't keep skin hanging on their faces. He also had a thing against reptiles, but, "ReptiCon" sounded too much like a conference in Las Vegas, and well, Las Vegas wasn't invented yet, so, that never materialized as viable option.

Anyway, Patrick, aka Leper Con, had a mission in life, and that was to find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Rain was not hard to find in Ireland, so his ongoing mission involved lots of pied piping, children gathering and pub hopping along his way to chasing rainbows. He once saw a unicorn on his travels. Patrick swears in his memoirs that the fuel in his pipe was, in fact, tobacco. Testimony from bar wenches from the time dispute his claim.

At the end of his life, he was swept up by a chariot of white horses who took him straight to heaven where he finally found a rainbow ending at STREETS of gold. The only problem was St. Peter told him his practice with child welfare was in question. Patrick argued the fact that in his lifetime he had depleted the entire island of Ireland of snakes. Peter took God aside, they debated the snake thing. God historically has had an issue against snakes. Long story short, Patrick now sits at the right hand of Steve Irwin, for Pete's sake.

That's my history lesson for the week. If you get the question at trivia night: What is St. Patrick best known for? Well, now you know.

Erin, go braless!!

Hugs,
Cyn, Jaye, Becki (St. Patrick & Peter)
