milestone. noun
a stone set up beside a road to mark the distance in miles to a particular place.
- figurative - an action or event marking a significant change or stage in development - "the speech is being hailed as a milestone in race relations."

In 1979, when I turned five, I started my first day of real school. Kindergarten! I remember swearing to my parents that I knew how to get from the drop-off curb to my classroom all on my own. Of course, I got lost, and a classmate's parent found me crying on a school pathway....

In 1989, when I turned 15, I left home and started boarding school. I didn't realize at the time that, despite returning for various vacations, that was it... that was when I moved out of my parents' home. I was also 15 when my parents moved from Cambridge to New York. I couldn't have dreamt that one day New York would feel more like home than anywhere else in the world.

In 1999, when I was 25, I started dating Jay. I remember when I first realized that he wasn't just the *next* guy I would date, but rather, the *last* guy I would date. That was also in 1999.

It is now 2009. Please join me for a drink (and perhaps a wiener schnitzel), and help me figure out what age 35 will bring.

Love,
TK and the triumvirate
