PubNight #741 (12/8/10) - Soda Bar

Previous PubNights PubNight Home

Greetings, festive Pubnighters!

This week we will be dabbling in a little bit of Brooklyn history, as well as pioneering Prospect Heights, a new-to-us neighborhood that's still convenient to many favorite express trains.

We'll be visiting Soda Bar, a Prospect Heights institution that originally opened as a soda fountain in the 1930s. When the space was converted to a bar in 2003, with a large back room annex that's full of comfy couches*, it was a pioneer in the nightlife revival of Prospect Heights. Unfortunately you can't still get an egg cream here, but they do offer an array of Pubnight's favorite things: fine craft beers, wines and spirits, a tasty pub menu with a Polish twist, and a chill neighborhoody vibe.

The other bit of local Brooklyn history that's relevant is that next week marks the anniversary of my birth, and I'd love for you all to raise a glass with me to celebrate!

Staying in Manhattan? Fuhgeddaboudit!

Love,
Lisa, jerk*** of the week

*We have already called dibs on some of said comfy couches.

**Transit Notes: Soda Bar is just 3 blocks from the Q/B train at Seventh Avenue--exit station on north side of Flatbush, turn right on Park Pl, and then left on Vanderbilt. Or 2/3 to Grand Army Plaza, exit on north side of station, loop rightwards along Plaza St E, turn left on Vanderbilt. (Note: the 2/3 is not running after midnight this week, thanksalotMTA, but the Q will be running fine.)

***Soda Jerk, that is. I do make a mean egg cream! Though probably not at Pubnight. Because I am a jerk.**** Sorry.

****But I'm not THAT jerky because hey I'm not making you ride the F train! See how much I really love you?
