PubNight #756 (3/23/11) - Anniversary Pubnight at Swift Hibernian Lounge

Good afternoon Pubnight! All I have to say to you is best expressed by the new PubNight mascot, a hungover owl:

. And why end that tradition after 15 years? Something could go wrong!

As per my script as the composer of the most sacred email for the FIFTEENTH anniversary of the PubNight, I believe I am supposed to wax nostalgia about the grand history of PubNight, and its importance to the history of the world.

Unfortunately, I do not remember the first seven years of Pub Night, as I had not heard of this most illustrious organization. Also, I was not drinking for most of it, as I was underage.

Okay, I didn't believe that either. I was not drinking because I was too poor to afford booze. Come to think, I was too poor to afford booze *after* I started attending PubNight, but I got around that by looking thirsty until someone (usually Jay or Dan) took pity on me and bought me a Guinness.

As for the eight years that I have been attending PubNight, I don't much remember them either, because I was drinking. Not quite a catch-22. Perhaps a catch-20.

Pubnight, for fifteen years, has been a place for meeting with old friends and relationships, and finding new friends and relationships (sadly, not for me. Seriously, guys, encourage your smart, nerdy, lesbian friends to come to PubNight). And for finding the occasional job. Because, why not? At any rate, this is a fine tradition we should be sure to celebrate.

Swift, our standard anniversary establishment, for those of you who have drunk so much at past anniversaries you have no memory of the place, is an East Village Irish pub that has tasty pub grub, and a delicious selection of international beers I shall be staring at longingly. Most importantly, it has an inexplicable dais in the back room, so that your powers that be can give self-important and tipsy speeches about what PubNight means to us. Swift should also contain a collection of extremely baffled non-PubNighters who wandered in off the street. Be sure to put on a good show for them.

Also, if you have not already done so, be sure to put in for your personal day for Thursday RIGHT NOW. You do not want to be this guy in your office Thursday morning:

See you there! This is the one PubNight of the year you must attend, even for you folks who have drifted from the fold, and to the world of responsibility, and only come out once a year. That's an order from your leader.

I'll stop rambling now.

Here's to another fifteen!
