This week's pubnight email was composed at the bar in question ...
Tropical 128 is a dive bar with just a hint of Tiki and a pool hall in the back.
They have a very nice Piña Colada and a quirky bourbon margarita, called the 'Mr. Hanson', which is better than it sounds.
The lighting is dim and soothing but not too dark. The music is at a reasonable volume. There are several corner areas that seems well suited for groups. There is a fish tank and eight pool tables. They are cash only, but there is a working ATM. The bartender seems friendly and she'll be here on Wednesday. There is a working jukebox. There is a full bar (since late 2010). There are 7 kinds of wine.
There is, alas, a single flaw. They DO have 2$ drafts on Wednesdays until 9pm (including Blue Moon, Sam Adams seasonal and something else), but the Guinness is, due to a syllogistic failure, not included in 'drafts'. Despite that, you should still be able to get your PubNight on for very reasonable dive bar prices.
