PubNight #831 (8/29/12) - Fiddlesticks

Previous PubNights PubNight Home

For my last week of PubNight administration this year - I was again responsible for the month of August -- I thought I would pawn off...oops, I mean, OFFER the choice to Jannette, whose birthday is fast approaching. She declined, but I will use her response as a lead in to this week's location:

"I had been thinking that I might actually not do a birthday pubnight this year. For the last two or three years, I tried to coordinate a dual birthday pubnight with James, since we were born on the same day. Each time, I was unable to attend my own pubnight. If memory serves, it was due to illness both times. Therefore, so that I can attend a birthday pubnight, I'm not going to declare a birthday pubnight. Does that make sense?"

That seems a logical way to trick The Fates or, at least, it will by the 3rd round of tributes to Dionysus/Bacchus on Wednesday.

Where are we going? How about an old favorite (of mine) we haven't visited in almost 200 Wednesdays? Plagiarizing myself from Jan. 2004: "Fiddlesticks is what a pub should be -- big enough for a group, comfortable, decent beer selection, simple but tasty food, and lots of wood. A well-stocked wine cellar would be a pleasant addition, but not if it even nominally tainted the classic Irish Pub vibe. Finally, it is convenient, lying within a 5 minute walk of various subway lines." And it's the first PN I can remember Jannette at, though it was actually her 4th or 5th by that time. And I need to be in that neighborhood earlier in the evening. And I just like Fiddlesticks.

See you at Fiddlesticks.

PS - The pub is presumably named after the informal word for a violin bow or the exclamation of frustration, rather than the League of Legends game character.
