Congratulations! You've made it through another year, and now all you have to do is survive Christmas and New Year's... and Holiday Pubnight.
This year for Holiday Pubnight we've decided to try something new. Erika graciously offered to organize for us, and we will be merrily drinking this year at Smithfield NYC, in Chelsea. We have the back seating area on the first floor reserved under the name of Pubnight, although we may move upstairs around 8:30 so also look for us upstairs if you arrive late.
And now, fun facts about Christmas!
The tradition of hanging stockings by the chimney came from England, where the story was told that Father Christmas dropped some gold coins from his pockets and they were caught in socks that were hanging by the fire to dry.
While Santa's reindeer seemingly have mostly male names, all those pictures of Santa's reindeer sporting antlers prove that they must be female. Male reindeer lose their antlers in late fall, while female reindeer don't lose them until spring.
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was first created in 1939 by Robert L. May, a copywriter.
The Twelve Days of Christmas does not refer to the twelve days leading up to Christmas, but rather Christmas day and the eleven days after.
Christmas became a national holiday in the United States on June 26th, 1870.
