Wednesday Pub Night #99 - 8:00 at Sweet & Vicious

Back to the Pub Night home page

Greetings and apologies for the belatedness of the Pub Night email.

It has been a whirlwind couple of days for us. Stuart is still recovering, which is why I am sending this out. Over the weekend, Stuart and I made a very rash but wonderful decision. We just couldn't wait anymore and all of this wedding planning has made us both very stressed out. We hopped in a cab Saturday afternoon and instructed the driver to take us to Kennedy airport. No bags, nothing. We bought tickets for the next plane to Las Vegas. As soon as we arrived, we went straight to the Elvis Chapel of Love, and with our new found friends and witnesses Hank and Belinda, we became husband and wife.

After a fabulous night in the bridal suite at Caesars Palace, and several congratulatory free bottles of champagne later, we awoke with monsterous hangovers and a return flight to catch. Nothing could be worse than a 5 hour flight with a champagne hangover.

So please join us, Mr. and Mrs. Piltch, for Pub Night this evening at Sweet and Vicious. A dark and candlelit gothic bar just right for a dark and rainy night like tonight. We'll be there around 8. They don't have any food, but I hear they have food right down the street at Balthazar. Let us know if you get a reservation.

Don't forget, all of you delinquent pub nighters, next week is number 100.

And happy April 1st.

Sweet and Vicious

This new stark, yet strangely intimate Soho bar is quickly becoming home to neighborhood patrons and trend seekers alike. The sparsely furnished interior obviously reflects the Turkish owner's aesthetic and ethnic sensibilities. Large circular iron sconces sparingly illuminate exposed brick walls, wooden benches, and tables. Anthropomorphic shapes carved into the wall form alcoves to hold bottles of whisky behind the bar. Past the bar lies an exit to the outdoor lounging space of a soon-to-be-revealed garden. The music tends toward mellow international sounds, but enlivens as patrons accumulate. Catering to the international and the after work crowds, "Sweet and Vicious" maintains a comfortable yet refined atmosphere.--Christa Toole
