Yes, once again this is a late one, and its not from Stuart. He's too busy corrupting young minds on the wonders of multimedia, so its up to me to send this out. Originally we were going to be up in the MTV area, but since its in the same neighborhood as the Grammys, I decided to get almost as far away as possible.Pub Night #94 is a change of scenery from our usual pub outing. Join us at Void around 8pm. Don't get lost finding your way in! Its a very cool place, with silent black and white movies and pretty good beer on tap.

Take the A, C, E; N, R; J; 6 to Canal St.Void is Soho ambient chic. You walk off the street, through a corridor and another door and into what seems to be, at least momentarily, another world. The only light is supplied by the screen, which covers one wall and is usually filled with the kind of vague, amoebic shapes found in club videos designed for coming down off psychedelic drugs; ditto the music, a soothing, occasionally disquieting soundscape of environmental noises. When your eyes become accustomed to the dark, however, you'll realize there are no ravers here: just the usual young Soho crowd of upper middle class kids. They're much less annoying in this environment, though, since all those black clothes mean they fade into the darkness, and the music keeps conversation to a discreet murmur. Somehow it's the best of both worlds, at least for this aging clubgoer: the tasteful comfort of a Soho bar rather than the scuzziness of a rave, and the mind-massage of ambient music rather than the spoiled chatter of the idle rich. A great place to chill and converse; they show cult movies and experimental videos, too.--Ben Williams
